| Venture into the Astral Sea and search for the second piece of the rod! | ||||||
| Area | Goal | Quests & Cinematics | ||||
Tasha: |
All right, I think I've narrowed down where the next piece of the rod is. Looks like you'll be heading for the Astral Sea.
Blooshi: |
Boring. | |||||
Tasha: |
To the corpse of a dead god.
Blooshi: |
OOOOO!! | |||||
| 1 | Defeat 25 Enemies | Surprise, surprise - the wizard spells are going nuts again! Better do their work for them again before you get killed! | ||||
![]() Mordenkainen: |
Have any of you been to the Astral Sea before?
Sgt. Knox: |
I don't get out of Neverwinter much.
Astarion: |
Yes, as a matter of fact. And it was on a dead god, too. Hopefully, this one is... less complicated.
Reya: |
Blooshi and I were with the Champions during the Xaryxian assault. We passed through the Astral Sea a few times.
Blooshi: |
What ended up happening with the Xaryxian refugees?
Reya: |
Last I heard, Xedalli was named empress, and they had set up a small city south of Waterdeep.
Blooshi: |
Good, I'm happy for them.
| 2 | Defeat 25 Enemies | There are more killer spells here than some of my lairs - make components out of them! | ||||
| 3 | Collect 25 Component Pouches | Since you silly mortals still need components to cast spells, you best start collecting them! | ||||
| 4 | Defeat 25 Enemies | Wait, do I need components to cast things now? Uh, never mind - fight these magical objects while I try something... | ||||
![]() Mordenkainen: |
For Knox's edification - the Astral Sea doesn't play by the same rules as the other planes. You will find yourself able to leap great distances - even float for a time. There are creatures there that move through the Astral Sea almost as if it were an ocean - you'll need to be alert at all times.
![]() Mordenkainen: |
Lastly, time stands still there. It doesn't matter how long you stay there; you will not age a moment.
Sgt. Knox: |
Sounds like I know where I'm retiring.
| 5 | Defeat the Animated Soup Cauldron | I'd say take some soup for the road, but you don't need to eat in the Astral Plane! ...wait, do I need to eat now? Is that what this weird stomach feeling is? | ||||
Alustriel Silverhand: |
Good luck, Champions. By the time you return, we hope to have a full plan in place to take down Emperor Vecna.
Blooshi: |
WHOA! There isn't any ground!
Astarion: |
I thought something was missing - I think your friends need a little more training with their portal placement!
Reya: |
Everyone calm down! We're floating perfectly fine for right now. Let's look around and see if we can spot -
Sgt. Knox: |
Astral Sea creatures approaching from the right - and fast!
| 6 | Defeat 25 Enemies | Ah, the Astral Sea - it would be such a lovely place if it weren't for a certain other lich. A story for another time - fight these things so we don't die. | ||||
| 7 | Defeat 25 Enemies | Whoa, don't remember these nasty things - must be new! Oh well, better kill them! | ||||
Reya: |
Anyone see anything that looks like a dead god?
Sgt. Knox: |
There! I can't say it looks so much like a corpse as -
Astarion: |
I don't care what it looks like as long as I can get solid ground under my feet again!
| 8 | Collect 25 Space Eel Filets | Blooshi says she wants space eel filets? I don't know, cut them up I guess? | ||||
Reya: |
Kas, can't help but notice that your sword has been very quiet this time around.
![]() Kas: |
[Chuckles] I can't blame it. Ever since it had no effect on Emperor Vecna it hasn't spoken to anyone. I think it's upset. I would be lying if I said I didn't feel similarly.
Reya: |
Don't worry, we're going to defeat him.
![]() Kas: |
I have no doubt. But it is a death promised to me and my blade that has been taken from us. We have... feelings about it.
| 9 | Defeat 25 Enemies | Why is Kas looking extra mopey? Whatever, keep fighting so we don't die! | ||||
Blooshi: |
Uh, does that place look a little...
Astarion: |
Fleshy? | |||||
Blooshi: |
I was trying to find another word, but... It looks like it's lumps of muscle with bone sticking out of it...
Sgt. Knox: |
That's not all - what is that?
Reya: |
It looks like a crashed spelljammer! A galleon if I'm not mistaken.
Sgt. Knox: |
That might be where the rod is. We can hope, at least. Regardless, someone there might be able to help us find it!
| 10 | Defeat the Star Angler Leader | Hey, those ugly fishes from before are back and BIGGER! Let's not get devoured - I HATE GETTING DEVOURED! | ||||
Reya: |
Looks like the spelljammer broke up into three segments. Let's head for the stern section and see if anyone survived.
Sgt. Knox: |
Hello in there! Anyone aboard?
Lysan: |
What's that? Is the meat talking to us now?
Zastra: |
Not this again. You're not losing your mind - you've already lost it.
Astarion: |
No, darlings, that would be us down here.
Zastra: |
Vlaakith's breath - are you from another part of the ship?
Blooshi: |
More like another part of the multiverse. We're looking for a magic item and were hoping you could help!
Lysan: |
We'd love to help, but those aberrations look like they're going to tear you up first!
| 11 | Defeat 25 Enemies | Huh, didn't think nothics liked hanging out on giant lumps of flesh in the Astral Sea. Who knew? | ||||
| 12 | Defeat 25 Enemies | Oh good, space birds are fighting with the nothics. I was worried this was going to be an adventure that made sense. | ||||
Zastra: |
I say - you all are doing some lovely fighting down there! Mind if we help?
Sgt. Knox: |
The more swords, the merrier!
Lysan: |
[Lands] Smashing! I can't help but notice you're not killing the lich - why?
Reya: |
He's harmless. | |||||
![]() Vecna: |
Hey! | |||||
Zastra: |
Works for us - now let's get these gazers!
| 13 | Collect 25 Aberration Eyes | For the 'harmless' comment, I want 25 aberration eyes, or I'm going to be even more annoying this adventure. | ||||
Reya: |
What's with all of these aberrations?
Zastra: |
Ever since we crashed, portals have been opening all over the ship, and aberrations keep pouring out of them. Luckily, we don't need to sleep in the Astral Plane, but it's been nearly constant!
Reya: |
Any idea why this is happening?
Lysan: |
Well, we were using portals to jump across Wildspace... so maybe something happened when we crashed?
Blooshi: |
What was that about traveling through Wildspace with portals?
Lysan: |
Yeah, it was something special to the Lambent Zenith. The captain could open portals that would take us over distances that would normally take months!
Reya: |
And how would they do this?
Zastra: |
We're not really sure. Well, there was a rumor around the ship that it was a magic item. Wait, aren't you all looking for a magic item?
![]() Vecna: |
[Scoffs] There's no way it's THAT easy.
Reya: |
Could we talk with your captain?
Lysan: |
We haven't seen her since the crash. We think she's on one of the other segments - but the corpse is crawling with dangerous creatures.
| 14 | Defeat 25 Enemies | The aberrations are gone, but those fish still want to eat us! ...I'm still not used to this 'I can die now' thing. | ||||
Sgt. Knox: |
So, who is in charge? | |||||
Zastra: |
The first mate - Figaro.
Sgt. Knox: |
Then take us to him. | |||||
Lysan: |
Well... he's actually come down with something and locked himself in a stateroom.
Sgt. Knox: |
What has he come down with?
Zastra: |
Mass paranoia that the whole ship is trying to kill him.
| 15 | Defeat the Green Slaad | A green slaad! Those are always fun to throw at adventurers! ...though I prefer being on the other side of the battle. | ||||
Reya: |
So, can you take us to whoever is in charge now?
Lysan: |
Hmm, I guess that would be Ilren?
Zastra: |
I mean, he is the one trying to stop everyone from killing each other - so he's probably the best.
| 16 | Defeat 25 Enemies | You know, looking at a gibbering mouther from the mortal side of things, I get why people scream. Kill it! | ||||
Ilren: |
Ah, you must be the adventurers I've heard about and... is that a lich?
Blooshi: |
Don't worry about him, he's more like a hurt puppy than anything else right now.
![]() Vecna: |
I'm still your patron, young lady!
Ilren: |
I see, well, I don't know how much help I can be to you. I only came to this ship a few weeks before the crash. Honestly, I'm just trying to make sure tempers don't get too high. I'm actually a bit uncomfortable with this crew looking to me for leadership.
Sgt. Knox: |
Well, I don't see anyone fighting - so it seems you are the leader they need at this time. We were hoping to speak with the first mate. Could you help us with that?
Ilren: |
Oh, you see, I don't think that would be a good idea. Figaro is... distressed. I worry that any outside stressors could make him worse.
| 17 | Defeat 25 Enemies | Enough yapping - more not letting us get eaten by terrible space nightmares! | ||||
| 18 | Collect 25 Chipped Mouther Teeth | I don't believe you're really killing those mouthers - bring me some of their chipped teeth to prove it! | ||||
Reya: |
We understand your position, but it is very important that we find something Figaro may know the location of.
Ilren: |
I won't, and can't, stop you from speaking with Figaro. But, please, before you do so, consider the ramifications for the crew if he gets worse. Just some food for thought.
| 19 | Defeat 25 Enemies | Are chokers a big threat in a place where you don't need air? Better carve them up all the same! | ||||
![]() Kas: |
I don't like this giff. | |||||
![]() Vecna: |
I hate to agree with Mr. Mope over here, but that Ilren is up to something.
Blooshi: |
Because the two of you are SUCH good judges of character.
Astarion: |
Evil does know evil, Blooshi. Heh, of course, I wouldn't know anything about that.
| 20 | Defeat the Neh-thalggu | Oh, you do NOT want to know what that neh-thalggu will do to you if we lose. So DON'T lose! | ||||
Zastra: |
Follow us, we'll take you to the stateroom.
Reya: |
Ilren really didn't seem to like the idea.
Lysan: |
Yeah, but we're not really 'make-good-decisions' sort of people. Plus, if the crew starts fighting it'll make things more interesting!
| 21 | Defeat 25 Enemies | Aartuks are crawling in from outside! Don't let them touch my pristine decaying skin! | ||||
Zastra: |
Hey, hold on real quick. I need to grab something out of my locker and - AH! [Crashing sounds]
![]() Book of Tarchamus: |
DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW LONG I WAS IN THERE? How are you not checking your locker AT LEAST once a week?
Reya: |
Is that... the Book of Tarchamus?
![]() Book of Tarchamus: |
Huh? ...What in the Nine Hells are you all doing here? I'm on vacation!
![]() Kas: |
Vacation? You disappeared almost a year ago.
![]() Book of Tarchamus: |
Look, it was great traveling with you for a while, but I'm gonna be honest - I got bored. So I had one of your zombie lackies take me for a trip. Which was a great mode of transportation before he fell off the side of a spelljammer.
Blooshi: |
And now you've been hanging out in a locker since then?
![]() Book of Tarchamus: |
Not by choice. | |||||
| 22 | Defeat 25 Enemies | Oh great, now an aberration portal opened up too! You're not doing enough fighting - get on it! | ||||
Reya: |
Are you saying someone hid you in that locker?
![]() Book of Tarchamus: |
Yes! I was sleeping one night -
![]() Kas: |
You sleep? | |||||
![]() Book of Tarchamus: |
I've been trying it out, so what? As I was saying; I was sleeping one night, and someone threw me in a bag and then threw me in that locker. They must have had some spell or something on them because I couldn't read their thoughts. Since then, I've been in that locker WAITING FOR THE PERSON WHO OWNED IT TO OPEN THE DOOR.
Blooshi: |
Did you get to try sleeping more?
![]() Book of Tarchamus: |
Yes. It's very boring. | |||||
| 23 | Collect 25 Aartuk Branches | Boring is what I'd call that conversation. Why don't you make things more interesting and pick up some of the aartuk branches? | ||||
![]() Book of Tarchamus: |
So, why are YOU all here?
Blooshi: |
We're looking for pieces of the Rod of Seven Parts to defeat Emperor Vecna.
![]() Book of Tarchamus: |
I hate to tell you, but Vecna is right behind you.
![]() Vecna: |
Please tell me we're not taking this book with us.
Blooshi: |
Oh, that's the old boring Vecna. There's a much cooler one now that's trying to take over this multiverse.
![]() Book of Tarchamus: |
Oh, well, then you're in luck. This spelljammer was powered by one of the pieces of the rod.
| 24 | Defeat 25 Enemies | You know what really kills aartuks? Thrown books. Why don't you try that twenty-five times or so? | ||||
| 25 | Defeat the Aartuk Starhorror | If you're done talking you should really get around to killing that starhorror - it WILL kill us otherwise. | ||||
Blooshi: |
All right, Book, you're coming with us.
![]() Book of Tarchamus: |
Oh, well, I was thinking that maybe I could -
Blooshi: |
Here, Astarion, hold the book for a second while I help Zastra with their locker.
Astarion: |
I don't think that's a - | |||||
![]() Book of Tarchamus: |
Oh, a vampire? Now that's interesting. I haven't read the thoughts of a - WHOA! PUT ME DOWN! THAT IS JUST SO MUCH - WHOA! No, no, no, I'm good on reading his thoughts. WOW.
![]() Shiphand: |
That's it, crew! We've had it up to here with Figaro's cowardice! Time to take the ship!
Sgt. Knox: |
Now see here! You will do nothing of the sort! Your survival depends on everyone working together and -
![]() Shiphand: |
An authority figure! Get 'em!
![]() Vecna: |
Great rallying speech there, Knox.
| 26 | Defeat 25 Enemies | These shiphands are taking the ship, and you're in the way! Don't let them kill me! | ||||
![]() Book of Tarchamus: |
Ah, well, if it isn't the Sword of Kas. How has my fellow sentient-magic-item been while I was away?
![]() Sword of Kas: |
... | |||||
![]() Book of Tarchamus: |
Hello? Is anyone in there? Kas, did you dispel your sword or something?
![]() Sword of Kas: |
I don't feel like speaking.
![]() Book of Tarchamus: |
Oh? And why is that? | |||||
![]() Vecna: |
It's upset that it failed to kill the other me.
![]() Book of Tarchamus: |
You and I aren't really at the 'jump-into-a-conversation' point of knowing each other yet; what with the whole trying to destroy me last time we met thing.
| 27 | Defeat 25 Enemies | If I die in a silly spelljammer mutiny I'm going to be VERY UPSET! DON'T LET THAT HAPPEN! | ||||
| 28 | Defeat 1 Ship Debris | The shiphands are blocking our path! Break up that ship debris! | ||||
Blooshi: |
...and then we fought a spiderdragon, and now we're here!
![]() Book of Tarchamus: |
Thank you for that... abridged catchup.
Reya: |
How do you know there's a piece of the rod on this ship?
![]() Book of Tarchamus: |
Because the captain of this ship picked me up after my travel buddy fell overboard. The way this ship manipulated the magic in the rod is FASCINATING.
| 29 | Defeat 25 Enemies | The aberrations are joining the fight! Kill them before they kill us! | ||||
| 30 | Defeat the Neothelid | Looks like the shiphands are running away. Oh, because there's a neothelid. WHOA, NEOTHELID! DEFEAT THE NEOTHELID! | ||||
Lysan: |
There - that's the door to the stateroom Figaro is in.
Reya: |
[Knocks on door] Hello? Figaro? My name is Reya and I'm here with Lysan and Zastra -
Hiding Figaro: |
Go away! Don't let them know I'm in here!
![]() Shiphand: |
There he is! Break down the door!
Hiding Figaro: |
AHHH!!!! | |||||
| 31 | Defeat 25 Enemies | These shiphands have terrible timing. Get rid of them! | ||||
Sgt. Knox: |
You all, keep fighting the shiphands - let me try talking to him. Mr. Figaro, we require your assistance and in exchange could help -
Hiding Figaro: |
NO! You're just going to kill me as soon as I open the door! You're just like the rest of the crew!
| 32 | Defeat 25 Enemies | I still don't understand why you bother talking to people when you can just hurt them. Oh well, fight these enemies before they kill us. | ||||
Astarion: |
Let me try. Yes, hello? Have you considered that we're simply being polite in asking you to open the door and could pick the lock or knock it down if we wanted to? Because that is an option!
Reya: |
Astarion, not helping!
Astarion: |
You all tried being nice. Sometimes people need to be presented with the reality of the situation.
Hiding Figaro: |
Uh... then... could you get rid of all these people trying to kill me? I... I'll let you in if you do that.
Astarion: |
Ha! See! What did I tell you?
| 33 | Collect 25 Astral Sea Maps | Do any of you know how to get around in the Astral Sea? Better grab those maps just in case - I don't want to get lost out here! | ||||
| 34 | Defeat 25 Enemies | Ugh, I still think we should just break down the door. But clear out these shiphands if you think that will help. | ||||
| 35 | Defeat the Umber Hulk | Oh! An umber hulk! Those were so much fun to throw at - well, you all. Kill it before it melts your mind. | ||||
Reya: |
All right, Figaro - it's clear out here, can you please open the door now?
Figaro: |
Th - thank you. You.... you promise you're not trying to kill me?
Zastra: |
Trust us, Figaro, these are good people.
![]() Vecna: |
[Scoffs] Speak for yourself.
Zastra: |
Figaro, what's going on with you? This paranoia isn't like you at all.
Lysan: |
Yeah, it's like you've got a brain bug or something burrowing into your brain. Are you feeling all right?
Figaro: |
I.. I just... how would I know if I had a... brain bug or whatever?
Blooshi: |
Hey, what if you held the Book of Tarchamus? It should be able to read your mind!
![]() Book of Tarchamus: |
Really? I just got back into the party and you're already volunteering me for things? Ugh. Fine.
| 36 | Defeat 25 Enemies | The shiphands sent reinforcements - just like I would have done. But oh well, you didn't listen to me and now you have to fight! | ||||
Figaro: |
Uh, what do I do? | |||||
![]() Book of Tarchamus: |
Just pick me up. Yes, just like that - all right, let's see. Hmm. Oh, I see.
Reya: |
Everything all right in there?
![]() Book of Tarchamus: |
No, not at all. Someone has manipulated his mind with magic - strong magic at that.
Reya: |
Can you do anything about it?
![]() Book of Tarchamus: |
Yes, but it will take time. Keep fighting those enemies, or whatever the lich tells you to do.
| 37 | Defeat 25 Enemies | Or whatever the - [Scoffs] fight these enemies while I decide what to do with that book. | ||||
| 38 | Collect 25 Nothic Claws | What? UGH. Blooshi says she needs nothic claws for spell components. Grab as many as you can. | ||||
![]() Book of Tarchamus: |
There! That should do it.
Figaro: |
[Gasps] What the - why was I freaking out? It felt like my mind was clouded with darkness for... weeks!
![]() Book of Tarchamus: |
Yes, that sort of mind magic will do that.
Zastra: |
Do you remember who did this to you?
Figaro: |
...Ilren. The last thing I remember was Ilren holding me down and saying some arcane words.
Zastra: |
Lysan, with me - we need to find Ilren. [Both leave]
Reya: |
Figaro, while they do that, we need your help with something.
| 39 | Defeat 25 Enemies | These shiphands really want Figaro dead! Better him than us! ...Ugh, you're going to be heroes about this. Fine, fight them. | ||||
Figaro: |
The piece of the rod? Oh, well, the captain kept that in her safe. And the only way to get into it is to speak the passphrase to the security wards hidden in this room and her study.
Astarion: |
Do you know the passphrase?
Figaro: |
I don't. | |||||
Astarion: |
Of course not. What about destroying it?
Figaro: |
...that might work! | |||||
Astarion: |
Splendid! This group does seem eager to hit things.
| 40 | Defeat the Security Ward Rune | Is this why all of wards failed? You all were just hitting them? Well, I guess hit this one too. | ||||
Sgt. Knox: |
All right, with that out of the way we better find Zastra and Lysan.
Figaro: |
Wait! Can you help us get off of this corpse? Once you find the rod piece I mean.
Astarion: |
That's not really why we're here -
Reya: |
Of course. We'll make sure you and your crew get back to the Material Plane.
Figaro: |
Thank you. | |||||
Zastra: |
You fiend! You've poisoned the minds of the crew!
Ilren: |
I've done no such thing! I've simply encouraged them to follow the line of thinking they believe is best. You can't help it if that differs from your own.
Reya: |
Then why did you alter Figaro's mind?
![]() Shiphand: |
Lies! Ilren would never do such a thing! Come on, boys! Let's throw 'em in the brig!
| 41 | Defeat 25 Enemies | It's gonna be real awkward when it turns out Ilren's a good guy and you're all evil now! Oh well, better fight these shiphands! | ||||
| 42 | Defeat 25 Enemies | Don't get thrown in the brig, keep being evil! | ||||
Ilren: |
You all are jumping to conclusions. You only have the word of one very disturbed man! What evidence do you have that I've done such a thing?
![]() Book of Tarchamus: |
I looked into his mind and not only found your magic but undid it as well!
Ilren: |
Please - are you all really going to take the word of a Netherese book?
![]() Book of Tarchamus: |
How did you know I came from Netheril?
Ilren: |
Uh... well... | |||||
| 43 | Collect 25 Spelljammer Logs | [Sighs] Knox thinks that if you collect those spelljammer logs you can prove that Ilren isn't who he says he is. Collect them, I guess. | ||||
![]() Book of Tarchamus: |
You're the one that threw me in the locker! Look! He's wearing a ring of mind shielding!
Ilren: |
What? This? No, no, this is - uh - just a toy. No magical power at all!
| 44 | Defeat 25 Enemies | Just because the aberrations are fighting alongside them doesn't mean you're the good guys. If anything it makes you worse. | ||||
Sgt. Knox: |
Give it up! You've done enough damage to this crew!
Ilren: |
No! I - AGH! I'm just a helpless - oh forget it! [Transforms]
![]() Death Slaad: |
I would have gotten away with it - if it weren't for you meddling Champions and that book!
![]() Kas: |
His true form! Now's our chance - get him!
| 45 | Defeat the Death Slaad | FINE! He's a death slaad, you were right - whatever! Kill it before it eats you. | ||||
![]() Shiphand: |
You mean... he really was evil?
Zastra: |
Yep, and you fell for it! Get the rest of the crew together - Figaro is going to want to chat with you all. Champions, thank you for taking care of this.
Reya: |
We're happy to help. | |||||
Astarion: |
And happy to take our reward.
Reya: |
Astarion. | |||||
Astarion: |
Oh, you're no fun. | |||||
Reya: |
We'll return after we find your captain and the piece of the rod. Will you all be fine until then?
Lysan: |
Now that Figaro is back, we'll be fine. Good luck!
Astarion: |
This corpse certainly is... juicy. Are we sure we can't just jump to the next piece of the ship? This is the Astral Plane after all.
Sgt. Knox: |
It's better to get our boots a little messy than possibly overshooting it and tumbling through nothingness forever.
Astarion: |
...is it? | |||||
| 46 | Defeat 25 Enemies | Lunar dragons are usually so kind - you must be upsetting them with all your good deeds. Don't get eaten! | ||||
| 47 | Defeat 25 Enemies | Now I know it's you - solar dragons absolutely don't just attack out of nowhere. Stop being so good and fight! | ||||
| 48 | Collect 25 Solar Dragon Scales | Collect some of those solar dragon wyrmling scales. No - it's not for Blooshi. I can want things too! | ||||
| 49 | Defeat 25 Enemies | Uh, it is just me, or does it seem like a lot of wildlife is running our way... like they're running away from something? | ||||
| 50 | Defeat the Hertilod | A hertilod! That would be what they were running away from! Don't get devoured! | ||||
