I know some of the old histories of Elturel, from a hundred years ago. Elturgard, the lands around the city, were under constant assault by fiends. Farms were ruined, livestock destroyed. But the fate of those captured and dragged off by devils was far worse. | |||||

The terror was the worst of it, or so the old writings say. No matter how many fiends the city cavalry destroyed, no matter how far they ranged, they could not stem the tide. In the end, the High Rider who was the ruler of Elturel led prayers to the gods for aid. And the next day, Zariel the archangel came. | |||||

Her name means 'Companion of Light,' I believe. It was a turning point. Or should have been. | |||||

In its way, yes. The survivors named themselves the Hellriders, in memory of the sacrifice made by so many. And Elturel seemed safe, for a time at least. But no more. | |||||
